The question today comes from Matthew 16. How will we answer?
Who is Jesus?
Jesus asked, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Only the Father in heaven could have revealed this to him, and He continues revealing “who Jesus is.” It was at a Christmas coffee where I met Sarah, our special speaker, for the first time. She shared about how Jesus revealed Himself to her. Sarah said that her family did not believe that the Messiah had come. This Jesus that Christians referred to as the Messiah could not be the One “who is yet to come.” In the Northern city where she lived as a child she and her family were called Jesus killers and as a result, she didn’t want anything to do with Christians. Sarah grew up content in her belief system. She had attended school, got her degree and was married to a wonderful man. After a few years her husband’s company moved them to the South. They were barely moved in when her husband had to go out of town, and she was left with boxes and more boxes…unpacked boxes everywhere. He decided to drop the children off at school on his way to the airport. Closing the door she took a deep breath, and was thankful to have her first morning alone in her new house. After her second cup of coffee, she set about the task of unpacking and it was nearing lunch time when she saw a book, Good News to Modern Man. The title intrigued her and she read it while eating lunch that day. Beginning with the first chapter of Matthew she was enthralled with the record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. She stopped eating, and read each verse slowly until she came to verse sixteen: Jacob, the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. Suddenly, she said with awe, “You are the Christ, You are the Messiah!”

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life,and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
