Question: How do you put on the whole armor of God, and how often do I have to put it on?

My Answer:

 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (Read Ephesians 6:10-20)

These are good questions, and my answers come out of almost 50 years of reading my Bible, meditating on the Word, praying and asking the Holy Spirit to give me insight. Most of my teaching is what I have learned as I’ve obeyed the Word in my everyday living. It all begins where I live with those who know me. This is doable and you have a Divine Helper, Guide and Counselor. The armor of God is cut from the fabric of the Word of God.

We are in the School of the Spirit, and our Teacher takes the Word of God to teach us Spiritual Truths.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[c] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

In the beginning of my spiritual walk, I put on the armor every morning by praying the prayer, “To Put on the Armor of God.” (https://prayers.org/design/viewprayer.aspx?id=92). Engaging my imagination I pictured myself putting on each piece: the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, the helmet of salvation, taking up the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. (This proved to be a good beginning for me.) The armor is a part of who I am in Christ Jesus! As a child of Light I am clothed in the Armor of Light!

Simply praying the prayer aloud soon turned into a reality, and I became a doer of the word, and not a hearer only. Give attention to the following acrostic and you will always be clothed in the armor of God…day in and day out…wherever you may be!

A—Abide in Me and let my Word abide in you

R—Rejoice and again I say rejoice

M—Meditate on His Word day and night

O—Obey or Order your life according to His will

R—Rest in God and learn His ways

 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.  Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.  For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:11-12)

The Word of God is our Armor, the Word of God judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Here in the presence of God His Word brings transformation, healing emotional wounds and granting us spiritual growth.

Remember: The power is in His Word! Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
