Prayer When Passed Over for Promotion
Father, in the name of Jesus I come before Your throne of grace to receive appropriate and well-timed help. I feel that my employer has been unfair to me in the recent changes within the company. Another person has been promoted to the position for which I aspire and even now believe I rightfully deserve.
I cannot change this situation, so I look to You to help me overcome anger and disappointment. Forgive me for the accusations I have made against my boss. I come to You in repentance, casting down every high and lofty thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of You.
Lord, it is You Who give me more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency—these thoughts of self-aggrandizement and pride—and all others fully). I choose by my noble living to show forth my [good] works with (unobtrusive) humility [which is the proper attribute] of true wisdom.
Your Word says to rejoice with those who rejoice, so I rejoice with the person who has been promoted. I realize, Lord, that this individual would not have received this promotion if he/she had not deserved it.
I put my own feelings aside and pray for Your richest blessing upon him/her. I refuse to allow a root of bitterness toward this person or the company to spring up in my heart and poison my life. I refuse to hold anyone accountable for this situation, but entrust it entirely to You.
Lord, I place my situation, my future, into Your hand, committing, with greater assurance than ever, to do my very best with the gifts and talents You have given me. If there are any bad habits in my work or improper attitudes in my heart that would keep me from being promoted, I ask You to reveal them to me and help me to overcome them.
I will not seek to promote myself, or to bring myself to the attention of people, but I will bring myself to Your attention by doing my job to the best of my ability.
Help me to write love and faithfulness upon the tablets of my heart. Then I will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. I choose to trust in You with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding; in all my ways I acknowledge You, and You will make my paths straight.
I refuse the pressure to make a hasty decision, remembering that the plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.
You are my help in this time of distress, and with the help of the Holy Spirit I humble myself [feeling very insignificant] in Your presence, and You will exalt me. [You will lift me up and make my life significant.]
Father, I look to You for appropriate and well-timed promotions. For not from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south come promotion and lifting up, but from You, Lord, the righteous Judge!
In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
