Keys to Effective Prayer

Prayer 101

Prayer 101

Welcome to Prayer 101 –  This video is developed to share with you some of the basics, the beginning part of what it means to pray.  This will start an adventure for you that will never stop from developing further into the things of God.

Our subject manner for this video is Praying God’s will, is there a right or wrong way to pray.

Starting this, we look at the Scripture, the Holy Bible.  I will use several translations in this video to open our minds and hearts to praying God’s will.

““My thoughts are not your thoughts, and my ways are not your ways,” declares the LORD. “Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts.” “Rain and snow come down from the sky. They do not go back again until they water the earth. They make it sprout and grow so that it produces seed for farmers and food for people to eat. My word, which comes from my mouth, is like the rain and snow. It will not come back to me without results. It will accomplish whatever I want and achieve whatever I send it to do.””

Isaiah 55:8-11 GW

We begin praying by acknowledging God’s ways are best and making His word apart of what we pray.

As we learn prayer, it will become a life style of communication between God and you.

Learning comes from experience and from study.  Prayer is like that, we learn from praying and studying the Word of God.

Let’s look at I John 4:4-6

“Dear children, you belong to God. So, you have won the victory over these people, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. These people belong to the world. That’s why they speak the thoughts of the world, and the world listens to them. We belong to God. The person who knows God listens to us. Whoever doesn’t belong to God doesn’t listen to us. That’s how we can tell the Spirit of truth from the spirit of lies.”

1 John 4:4-6 GW

Now look at 1 John 5:14-15

“We are confident that God listens to us if we ask for anything that has his approval.  (This is where we will always want to see what the Bible has to say about what we are praying for or about).  We know that he listens to our requests. So, we know that we already have what we ask him for.”

1 John 5:14-15 GW

So, in this short lesson let’s review.  God knows more than we do, He wants us to hear what He has to say.  He will listen to our prayer and we can know that we belong to God.

Try today praying something from the Scripture, let’s pray Psalm 23 together “The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. (Father God, I am saying I everything I need because Your Word says I do, but to be honest it doesn’t feel that way) At this point I want to pray the rest of the verses by making it personal.

Heavenly Father you tell me that You let me rest in fields of green grass and Your lead me to quiet pools of fresh water. You give me new strength.

I bet you can see how this is working….

You will guide me in the right paths, as you have promised. Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me. You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honored guest and fill my cup to the brim. I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live.”

Psalm 23:1-6 GNT

I pray this in Jesus Name.

I hope you have enjoyed Prayer 101 and your assignment is to pray!
